The second-newest giant Las Vegas casino resort, Durango Casino & Resort, could soon be getting bigger if operator Station Casinos has its way.
The locals-oriented Durango opened in the southwest of Sin City in early December of 2023. Now, Station has outlined its adjusted plans to expand the property in its Phase Two.
This will see more hotel rooms, an expanded casino gaming floor, and new amenities, such as a banquet space, a bowling alley, and a movie theatre.
The plans, submitted to the Clark County Zoning Commission on Wednesday, include 2,500 additional parking spaces, with a new parking garage complex.
The $750 million Durango Casino & Resort opened as Station Casinos seventh Las Vegas property. It currently features an 83,000-square-foot casino, a STN sportsbook and lounge, and 500 hotel rooms.
The Expansion
The Durango sits about seven miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Durango Drive, near the 215 Beltway road.
Station Casinos parent company Red Rock had previously been seen planning applications approved for Phase Two of the project, which has now been tweaked and resubmitted.
The new plans mostly centered on building a parking garage on the southeast section of the 50-acre site. The 2,500 spaces will spread across a five-story structure, with valet parking and ride share drop-off.
The development will also see decorative features added across the site, including a patio area and a new water feature, plus some 19,000 square feet of additional casino gaming space. That brings the total casino floor to more than 100,000 square feet.
The proposals submitted to regulators did not include any renderings of the designs, nor did they include a timeline for when any developments would take place.
Earlier this year, Red Rock told company investors that it won’t be starting the Durango expansion project until its Madera, California, casino project with the North Fork Rancheria Indians is underway.
Red Rock’s Growth
Station Casinos and its parent company, Red Rock, have been expanding across the wider Las Vegas area and nationally in the U.S. in recent years.
Aside from its flagship Red Rock Casino Resort, just off the Las Vegas Strip, it mostly operates smaller, more locals- oriented casinos. That includes 10 Wildfire Casinos, of which it has seven in the Henderson area of Las Vegas near the Durango.
Recently, Red Rock also said it is looking at moving into Nevada’s small scale casino and bar “gaming tavern space”.
Red Rock, and thereby Station Casinos, is owned by the billionaire brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta. The Fertittas are big personal and financial backers of former President Donald Trump, who is campaigning to return to the White House later in 2024.
