The New Orleans Saints may have dodged a bullet. It was below zero on Sunday in Buffalo, but for a dome team going outside to test the winter elements, it’s going to be downright balmy in Green Bay. Temperatures will be in the 30s, and the winds will be light, according to the pregame predictions.
That is where the good news ends for the Saints. Along with having to start a backup quarterback because of Derek Carr’s broken hand, running back Alvin Kamara is also out with a groin injury. Wide receiver Chris Olave participated in limited practice this week, but he’s out on Monday, and Marques Valdes-Scantling has been dealing with the flu.
Game Line: Packers (-14)
Along with the woes of the Saints, they face a Green Bay Packers team that is playing excellent football. The Packers have won four of five games. They are coming off an impressive 30-13 win at the Seattle Seahawks, and they are a win away from clinching a playoff berth.
We don’t often see two-touchdown point spreads in the NFL. But considering the trajectories of these two teams, 14 points feels appropriate. The Packers have won four straight games against the spread, but this is by far their largest spread of the season.
Quarterback Proposition Bets
Packers quarterback Jordan Love can have problems with interceptions at times. But he hasn’t thrown an interception in four games, and has 10 touchdowns over that stretch. He’s +275 to throw three touchdowns on Monday, and his over/under on passing yards is 232.5.
Spencer Rattler is getting another start in place of the injured Carr, and he is +500 to throw two touchdowns. His passing yards line is 172.5, a week after he managed just 135 yards at home against the Washington Commanders.
Running Back Proposition Bets
Josh Jacobs has been one of the best free agent adds of 2024, and the Packers running back has a rush yards line of 90.5. Last week, he ran for 94 yards, and four other times this year he has gone over 90 yards. Jacobs has been a touchdown machine, with 13 TDs on the season and scores coming in each of the last five games. He is -280 to find the end zone in this one, and he is +235 to be the game’s first scorer.
Jacobs is paying +700 to score three touchdowns, and no one else in the game is closer than +7000.
Kendre Miller will be the lead back for the Saints, and with one touchdown in limited action this season, he is +170 to score. His over/under on rushing yards is 52.5.
Pass Catcher Proposition Bets
How lopsided is this matchup? The four highest receiving yards lines all belong to Packers. Christian Watson is at 47.5, Jayden Reed is 42.5, Romeo Doubs is 37.5, and tight end Tucker Kraft is 34.5. The highest Saint is the ill Valdes-Scantling at 31.5.
Behind MVS is Juwan Johnson at 29.5, and Kevin Austin Jr. is 21.5.
Touchdown scorers for the Packers include Doubs at +170, Reed and Watson at +180, and Kraft at +220. For the Saints, MVS is +450 to score a touchdown and Johnson is +700.
